Appointments to Quality Education Fund Steering Committee

The Education Bureau today (January 15) announced the appointment of members to the Quality Education Fund Steering Committee (QEFSC).
The following two members have been re-appointed to QEFSC :
* Professor I p Ho-shing, Horace, Chair Professor, Department of Computer Science, City University of Hong Kong
* Mr Ip Sing-piu, Antony , Headmaster, Shak Chung Shan Memorial Catholic Primary School
The following five new members have been appointed to QEFSC:
* Dr Lam Chi-kit, Lawrence , Dental Surgeon
* Ms Leung Chi-kin, Gloria, Head, Caritas Pre-School Education & Child Care Services
* Mr Ng Sui-kou, Principal, Ho Fung College (Sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen)
* Mr Pak Fu-hung, Frank, Managing Director, Home of Swallows Ltd
* Ms Poon Suk-han, Halina, Principal, Christian & Missionary Alliance Sun Kei Secondary School
The appointments will take effect from January 16, 2009 for a term of two years.
“I am confident that with the above appointments, the Quality Education Fund (QEF) will continue with its excellent work in the promotion of quality school education in Hong Kong ,” the Secretary for Education, Mr Michael Suen, said.
He also thanked five outgoing members of QEFSC for their contributions in the past years, namely Mr Chan Chi-wan, Stephen, Ms Lee Lai-wan, Maria, Mr Wong Chun, Justein, Mr Wong Kwan-yu, and Ms Yip Sau-wah, Lisa.
The QEF was established in early 1998 with a capital of $5 billion to fund community initiatives which promote quality education in Hong Kong . QEFSC was set up to advise on policies and operation of QEF. It also makes recommendations to the Fund’s Trustee on the awards of grants.
Since its establishment, the Fund has supported 7 434 projects with a total grant amounting to $3.62 billion.
