The Government announced today (Jan 13 ) the appointment of new Chairman and four new members to the Quality Education Fund Steering Committee (QEFSC).
Mr PANG Yiu-kai, JP, was appointed as Chairman of QEFSC from 16 January 2006 to 30 June 2007. Mr Pang is currently a member of the Education Commission and QEFSC and is the Executive Chairman of a private company.
Newly appointed members are –
Mr CHAN Kwok-wai, Patrick, Executive Director of a local bank
Miss Jane Curzon LO, Barrister
Mrs MANSUKHANI AU Hay-lun, Rita, Principal of a special school
Mr WONG Chun-nam, Duffy, Solicitor
Mrs Mansukhani is appointed for a term from 16 January 2006 to 31 December 2007, while the other 3 members are appointed for a term of two years effective from 16 January 2006.
Secretary for Education and Manpower, Professor Arthur K C LI, said “We welcome the new appointees. I am confident that they will be able to contribute useful ideas and provide effective support to the work of QEFSC.”
In making the appointments, Professor Li paid high regard to the outgoing Chairman of the QEFSC, Mr TAI Hay-lap.
“Mr Tai has made a remarkable contribution to the QEF in the past years. Under his capable leadership, the QEF has consolidated into a robust vehicle in pioneering innovative education projects and raising the quality of education in Hong Kong.” said Professor Li.
Professor Li also thanked other outgoing members for their contributions to the QEFSC in the past years. They included Dr TANG Mei-sin, Louisa and Professor WONG Po-choi, MH.
The Quality Education Fund was established in early 1998 with a capital of $5,000 million to fund community initiatives which promote quality education in Hong Kong. Since its establishment, the Fund has supported 5 802 projects with a total grant amounting to $3,182 million.
Established under the Education Commission, the QEFSC advises on the policies and operation of the QEF. It also makes recommendations to the Fund’s Trustee on the award of grants.
