The following is issued on behalf of the Quality Education Fund Steering Committee and Investment Committee :-
The Secretary for Education and Manpower, Prof Arthur K C LI, GBS, JP, today (15 January 2005) made appointments to the Quality Education Fund Steering Committee (QEFSC) and Quality Education Fund Investment Committee (QEFIC).
Mr TAI Hay-lap, BBS, JP, Principal of Yan Oi Tong Tin Ka Ping Secondary School and current Chairman of QEFSC was reappointed to lead the Committee.
The following ten members were appointed to QEFSC -

Prof LI also appointed Mr Gordon KWONG Che-keung, an accountant by background who serves as independent non-executive director on a number of companies, and Mr David SUN Tak-kei, Chairman of Assurance and Advisory Business Services, Ernst & Young, to QEFIC.
While the appointments to QEFSC will take effect on 16 January 2005, those to QEFIC will take effect on 11 March 2005.
The Quality Education Fund was established in early 1998 with a capital of $5,000 million to fund community initiatives which promote quality education in Hong Kong. Since its establishment, the Fund has supported 5,250 projects with a total grant amounting to $3,038 million.
QEFSC advises on policies and operation of the Quality Education Fund. It also makes recommendations to the Fund's Trustee on the awards of grants. QEFIC was set up alongside QEFSC to set policies for and monitor the investment of the Fund.
All members of QEFSC and QEFIC have to observe the procedures on declaration of interests stipulated by the Government.
