Exhibition showcases progress of education in SAR

The Education Expo 2002 titled "Education in the HKSAR - from Strength to Strength" which showcases the encouraging developments of education in Hong Kong since the establishment of the SAR Government will be held from March 8 to 11 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
"Visitors will be able to see for themselves the key developments in education in recent years, a number of outstanding Quality Education Fund projects, models of the 21st century school design and the development of information technology in schools," an Education and Manpower Bureau (EMB) spokesman said today (March 7).
Jointly organised by the EMB, Education Department and the Quality Education Fund, the Expo will feature the following three themes: "Opportunities and Choice", "Facilities and Systems" and "Learning and Teaching".
"Teachers and students from about 100 schools will take part in the event to share with visitors their experiences in a wide spectrum of education initiatives in 60 display booths," the spokesman said.
"Under the theme of 'Opportunities and Choice', visitors will be able to learn more about the diversified education opportunities enhanced in recent years, including the increase in senior secondary places, Project Springboard, higher education and continuing education," he said.
"Parents will also get useful information on the admission system, through train mode and whole-day primary schooling from the displays," he added.
On "Learning and Teaching", encouraging improvements relating to life-wide learning, project learning, curriculum reform, assessment for learning, language education and information technology in education are highlights of the displays.
The spokesman also suggested visitors to take a look at displays on school improvement programme, the new school design and quality assurance framework so as to know more about the "Facilities and Systems" in education.
"Seminars and experience-sharing sessions by teachers and experts on a wide range of topics covering language education, multi-media learning and pre-school education will be conducted throughout the Expo," he said.
"A multi-media learning centre, a teaching demonstration room and a pre-primary teaching demonstration room have been set up at the venue for this purpose," he added.
Moreover, musical and dancing performances by students would also be staged from time to time during the Expo period.
The Education Expo will be held at Hall 7A of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Admission is free. The opening hours are as follows:
March 8 12 noon to 7 pm
March 9-10 10 am to 7 pm
March 11 10 am to 5 pm
