The Secretary for Education and Manpower, Mr Joseph W P Wong, today (Thursday) announced the following appointments to the Quality Education Fund (QEF) Steering Committee for a term of two years with effect from January 16, 2000:
Mr Irving Koo Yee-yin has been re-appointed to be the Chairman. He is a member of the Education Commission and Advisor of Jardine Pacific Group.
Six incumbent members have also been re-appointed. They are Prof Cheng Yin-cheong, Mr Fung Man-ching, Mr Ip Cho-yin, Mr Peter Tsang Cheung, Mr Tso Kai-lok and Mr Yip Chee-tim.
Three new members -- Mr Paul Tsang, Partner of KPMG; Ms Louisa Tang Mei-sin, Headmistress of Baptist Lui Ming Choi Primary School; and Ms Maggie Koong May-kay, Principal of Causeway Bay Victoria Kindergarten have been appointed.
The Deputy Director of Education and Deputy Secretary for Education and Manpower will continue to serve as members of the steering committee, both in their ex-officio capacities.
The QEF Steering Committee, established under the Education Commission, advises the Government on the policies and procedures governing the operation of the Fund and makes recommendations on all funding applications to the Fund.
Of the incumbent members of the Assessment Sub-committee and Promotion and Monitoring Sub-committee of the QEF Steering Committee, 44 have been re-appointed for a term of two years with effect from January 16, 2000.
Six new members have also been appointed to the two sub-committees for a term of two years with effect from the same date. They are Prof Lorna Chan and Mr Leung Bo-wah of the Hong Kong Institute of Education, Mr Norman So of Wah Yan College, Kowloon, Mr Richard Li of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Mr Pong Wing-yan of the University of Hong Kong, and Ms Maggie Koong May-kay.
"I am confident that with the re-appointment of Mr Irving Koo and other members of the QEF Steering Committee and its sub-committees for a further term of two years, the QEF will continue with its excellent work in the promotion of quality school education in Hong Kong," Mr Joseph Wong said.
"I would like to extend the warmest welcome to the new members, and express my deepest thanks to the outgoing members for their valuable contribution to the work of the QEF," he added.
