The following is issued on behalf of the Quality Education Fund Steering Committee:
The Quality Education Fund (QEF) Secretariat will conduct a seminar for parents on September 18 (Saturday) to introduce the Outstanding School Awards Scheme and discuss the importance of outstanding school practices in facilitating students' all-round development.
"We launched the Outstanding School Awards Scheme on June 1, 1999 to recognise and reward schools for their excellent education practices. Schools, education professionals, parents, students and interested persons are invited to nominate outstanding schools for the awards by October 15, 1999," said Mr Irving Koo, Chairman of the QEF Steering Committee.
"In order to familiarise education professionals with the Scheme, the QEF Secretariat had conducted three professional development seminars for the secondary, primary, pre-primary and special education sectors respectively in June 1999. The response was very encouraging. The forthcoming seminar in September is to introduce and promote the development of outstanding school practices to parents," he added.
The parents' seminar will be held at Heung To Middle School, 33 To Yuen Street, Tai Hang Tung, Kowloon on September 18 (Saturday) from 9.30 am to 12.00 noon.
The Chairman of the Sub-Group on the Scheme, Dr. Francis Cheung Wing-ming, will be the guest speaker of the seminar entitled "Challenges for Student Development and School Management in the 21st Century". The seminar will be conducted in Cantonese, occasionally supplemented by English.
"The demands of the society are ever changing. We need to provide high quality, all-round education for students to meet the needs of the society in the 21st Century," said Dr. Cheung.
"Since effective and outstanding school practices and management have great impact on students' development, we hope that through the seminar, parents would gain more in-depth understanding about quality education practices and support schools' efforts in the pursuit of excellence," he added.
Parents who are interested in the seminar are requested to register with the QEF Secretariat by phone on 2186 8188 by September 14 (Tuesday). Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. More information is available at the QEF home page (http://www.info.gov.hk/qef/).
