The following is issued on behalf of the Quality Education Fund Steering Committee:
On the advice of the Quality Education Fund Steering Committee (QEFSC), the Trustee of the Quality Education Fund (QEF), the Director of Education Incorporated has approved grants totalling $55 million for the second batch of 85 projects from the first call for applications to the Fund.
This brings the total number of approved QEF projects to 375, involving grants of over $261 million.
All these projects meet the criteria for the allocation of grants under the broad objective of the QEF. QEFSC will closely monitor the progress of project implementation and disseminate the outcomes arising from these undertakings as widely as possible within the education sector.
The approved projects represent a wide variety of efforts in promoting the quality of teaching and learning, developing all-round education, improving school-based management and educational research.
One of the significant projects approved in this batch involves the provision of a quality teaching and learning environment to 10 primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong based on information technology incorporating state-of-the-art web-based learning technologies. Both teachers and students will benefit from the new mode of flexible and effective learning process which can address their different needs.
Other projects approved include a research study to provide an integrated curriculum for the enhancement of effective learning for the moderately mentally handicapped children; development of an inter-school education net for five secondary schools in Kwun Tong; and a scheme in which students will learn civic education through various forms of activities.
The remaining 1,000 or so projects are at an advanced stage of assessment and will all be processed by mid-August.
The second call for applications will be made in late September and the closing date will be the end of November.
